That concludes the whistle updates, there are also some flute updates that may be of interest:

In particular, I have received many emails from folks wondering about the Hall crystal (well, Pyrex) flute in D either as a first flute or as an inexpensive Irish flute. I have usually not recommended them for this, as I don’t find mine particularly responsive or easy to play. However, it does play, and here is the Killavil Postman on mine:

I think it’s a fun flute as long as you don’t expect it to be anything except what it is: a novelty instrument.

On my antique German 8-key, here is the Lark on the Strand:

I include this here not because the instrument is of particular interest to whistlers, but because the tune itself is lovely and fits quite well both on flute and on whistle.

Jeez James I love the sound of that old 8 key. Wish I could figutre out how to send you a tune on my old Eb 8 key. It is a great sounding flute.
Nice job on the Feadog, Ill just have to keep mine and the Syn. You just cant beat a Syn, just about everything I want in a whistle. Thanks for the tunes;

James, do you mess with the sound at all, or are we hearing the bare truth?

That Syn, holy cow, it sounds like a nice one.

I don’t alter the sound at all–for good or for bad, you are hearing these instruments like they sound in person.

Some folks have noted a bit of an “echo effect”–the echo is actually real, our computer room where I do my recordings is pretty live and it does echo a bit. There’s nothing I can do about that.

Yep, the new Syn is a lovely whistle. It sounds even better in person.
