There was a topic like this on the pipes board quite recently. Which flutes do you have currently, what flutes do you have on order (if any) and what’s your dream flute(s)?
I’ll begin:
Flutes I have:
selfmade plumwood D flute which I made under guidance from Andreas Rogge and which is also the first flute I ever had
Maurice Reviol eight-keyed Pratten style flute in D, made from Satiné, my session workhorse (which I’ll never let go!)
Tipple B natural
Flutes on order:
none at the moment, but one of the two dream flutes will move here quite soon I guess.
Dream Flutes:
Aebi low A, eight keys, blackwood (this one will move onto the “on order” list soon , but only keyless with blocks for now)
Aebi boxwood Rudall in D, eight keys (somewhere far down the road…)
Bleazey in boxwood
Olwell (small-holed) in boxwood with slide and extra Eflat tube; medium-holed all-wood in rosewood
Noy in boxwood with extra footjoint with an E-flat key (fully chromatic)

On order:
a Noy traverso, should be here by this time next year. I’ve waffled back and forth whether to get a Grenser or Rottenburgh, or even an earlier model. It’ll be one of the two, though, I’m sure – they’re appropriate for Baroque stuff like Handel and Telemann, Rococco stuff like CPE Bach and Frederick the Great, as well as early classical like Haydn and Mozart. Not to mention, O’Carolan.
Edited to add that I forgot about the dream flute part. It was the Cameron. We have a dream flute on order for my wife: A copy of the Olwell Nicholson all-wood as a keyed flute (it’s really old, pre serial-number, and Patrick isn’t sure he’s still using the same design). Aaron assured us that they would have eight-key flutes (my wife is a classical player) by the time our number is up.

Dreamflutes:
I’d love to get a top-notch, piece of art, 8-key (blockmounted) delrin flute sometime. (Maybe Jon C can make me one in the future. Other than him I think McGee is the only option. I need to try out one of McGee’s more traditional embouchure designs, wasn’t entierly satisfied with his modern cut.)
And also a low Bb or A flute from some great maker, also in delrin
Glenn Schultz keyless D in African blackwood with silver rings. I’ll never get rid of this one!
Gilles Lehart 6-key D in African blackwood with copper rings.

Dream flute:
A pin-mounted 6 or 8-key easy-blower with a Bb key for the right hand! Probably in blackwood or rosewood. I’m not experienced enough yet to be any more particular than that.
It would be interesting (to me at least) to include “flutes you have previously owned” but that might make for quite a long list for some!

Really, it’s time to thin the herd. I’m embarassed that my go-to flute, most consistent, sounds best acoustic and through a mic, is a cheesy anonymous German. Hrmfff. Maybe I’ll sell everything and get a used small-hole Olwell.
Or maybe I’ll practice more.
Flutes I have:
2 Casey Burns, one mopane in D with rings, slide, and one key (Eb), and one Bb in mopane with blackwood headjoint, no silver bits.
1 Yamaha silver flute that I don’t play much at all.
A few homemade ones of PVC, bamboo, etc.
Flutes on order:
None.
Dream flutes:
I’d like a few more keys on the D flute, maybe rings and a tuning slide for the Bb.
And a friend of mine has this sweet little boxwood Olwell that he never plays (he plays pipes, not flute), and I’ve been wanting that flute for a long time now. He let me borrow it when my D flute was off being repaired, and I fell in love.

Me too!..It happens…but it always seems to happen to someone else!!
We’ll have to keep on looking!..I’ll probably find one when I’m 97, and I’ll be so crippled with arthritis, that I can’t even hold a flute…never mind play one!!
