Programme 1: 1st November 2008

The Bloom of Youth series returns to the airwaves for the month of November featuring solo performances from some of our finest young musicians and singers. Tonight, young Dublin Uileann piper, Maitiu O Cassaide and flute player Michael King from West Limerick.

Presenter: Kieran Hanrahan
Producer: Peter Browne

That is certainly beautiful playing. Great lift, pure tone, no tension.

Thanks for sending us flutewards.

He plays an air followed by a couple of jigs. The last jig in the set is sorrowful jig, but what is the name of the middle tune? It starts at 42:42.6 into the program. That’s a really great tune.

Thanks,
Jay

the middle tune sounds to me like a version of the banks of lough gowna

Thanks for posting the link to the show. Michael’s brother Padraig is a great box player as well.
Brendan

That’s not quite it…I think I found it titled “I never shall wean her (Mrs. O’Sullivans).” I’d heard it before, so wasn’t too hard to track down.

X: 1
T: I Ne’er Shall Wean Her
M: 6/8
L: 1/8
R: jig
K: Ador

Best,

There are three jigs after the air - I never shall ween her/banks of lough gowna/lonesome jig

post deleted…[brendan already said it]

Well, there’s the problem. I had to relisten to pick up on the forth tune. It was the “never shall wean her” tune I was after though… Thanks for clarifying.

And thanks Rama for posting this in the first place.

Jay

your welcome, michael king is surely a wonderful fluter great great tone and style etc. i really enjoy listening to him play, and it’s unaccompanied which makes it even more amazing to me

Thanks for the link rama. I also really enjoy Michael’s playing. His tone is outstanding. I’ve listened/watched some of the Comhaltas clips with him and have always wanted more! Thanks again.
