Hey, does anyone know of any flute teachers in Central scotland. I’ve been playing for 10 years now but as I’ve been at college and had some grumpy neighbours I’ve neglected playing and have become sort of rusty…

I wrote a reply to this yesterday but the board went down just as I tried to submit it!
Anyway, the gist of what I wrote was that you should get in touch with Rebecca Knorr and Claire Mann in Edinburgh and ask them if they know of any flute teachers up in Perthshire. Failing that, if you’re not too far from Edinburgh for occasional visits, perhaps you could set up some lessons with either or both of them. They’re both excellent flute players and they both teach.
Rebecca plays with the group Calluna; I met her at a session in Sandy Bells some years ago and was impressed with her playing.

You could try PMing kenny, he is based in the Aberdeen area but will likely know of any traditional flute players in your area. Try the folk clubs in your area (Stirling and Glenfarg - both operate on monday nights and have websites)
You could also try the TMSA http://www.tmsa.org.uk/ they have a list of sessions - there doesn’t appear to be any listed for Perth, but the list is not totally comprehensive.
If you can get to the Glasgow / Lanarkshire area then all of the Comhaltas branches teach flute.

I’m near Dunkeld, and there are sessions in Dunkeld and Birnam nearly every night! PM me for more details.
Rebecca Knorr is a lovely teacher, and I’ve heard good things about Claire Mann as well. I don’t think there’s anyone else actually in our area but Edinburgh is only just down the road. Don’t know whether this would apply (?) but Rebecca is running a flute workshop at the Youth Gaitherin, Fiddle 2005 in November. She is also teaching for ALP Scotland this term.
If you’re closer to Crieff, Nigel Gatherer (whistle) runs a learner’s session there.

A lot farther than Edinburgh… I thought of Nuala as well. She was at the Tap in Birnam a week ago, lovely player!

I’m gonna be contacting people soon, edinburghs not too far away and I’m not too fussed about travel…it’s worth it to get playing again, though now I have alcoholic neighbours…but then agen they don’t live on this planet and probably wouldn’t hear the flute for the ringing in their heads either that or they’d think it was their home planet calling.
