Does anyone know who plays the wonderful flute music on this CD and what kind of a flute it is? Thanks, J.
It’s Karen Ashbrook; at that point she was playing an all-wood Olwell boxwood flute. (Last I knew she was upgrading to an Olwell blackwood flute, still all-wood to save on weight.) She’s more well-known as a hammered dulcimer player and teacher, but she’s a really fine flute player. If you like the playing on the Ceoltoiri album, you might want to check out some of Karen’s solo stuff – I’d recommend “Knock on the door.”
I really like Knock on the Door…I was lucky enough to find it at a used book store.
