Well, if “necessary” means “no half-holing”, then you’d need an F key. You might want a C key on the foot as well, if you need the C below the bell D.

you can transcribe the tune and play it in D and not worry (unless the others are playing it in the key of C)
or…pick up a C wistle and play with the “D fingering” and it will play in C.
or get a G flute (they do make them, you know) and transcribe the tune to the key of G fingering you’re used to on a D flute…and the tune will be in C. ![]()
