is there such a thing ? has this been asked before ? why am i asking you ?
i’m wondering if there’s any notated flutable versions of tunes somewhere here on the Chiff
some years ago i got a hold of the book , Pipe Friendly Tunes , which had some unfortunate versions , so to hades with that one , ok ?
i have 3 gazzilion tunes on sound/mp3/Tikkityboo Player etc. so i don’t need the directive " listen",
just a link , if it’s here there, hither or yon, to notation of flute friendly tunes .
thanks , and a Happy Christmas to all and sundry and to me in particular , jim troy
jim, i like a lot fintan vallely timber flute book, mike rafferty book ( i have only first one) and june mccormack book ( i have a both volume).there you find flute friendly version of more or less known tunes.
marin
Great recommendations from maracirac. Lesl Harker’s transcriptions of Mike Rafferty’s playing are wonderful. You won’t always get the most common setting of a tune, but it will sit perfectly on the flute. http://www.firescribble.net/rafferty/index.html
And another vote for Fliuit, by June McCormack. http://www.draiochtmusic.com/fliuit/
now that you mention it, thank you , Mara , i do have Fintan’s book , but it’s in the other room , i’d have to get up walk 10 yds. and reach up to the right shelf , look through the index etc.
so , as there is a snips and clips forum here , will there ever be , in my lifetime ( 64 not out ) a forum for notated flute tunes ?
pretty please , Mr.Dale , sir , please sir , with corn mash and sweetener on it , sir .
i like the ould notation , for the very good reason that you do with the tune , what you hear, in your own little bubble.
and with the computer, i like that you can just hit the any key , to see the tune you are hunting for.
Not a tunebook, but do you know Michael Clarkson’s flute-centric tune learning website? http://irishflute.podbean.com/
I thought there was notation on the site too, but maybe I was getting ABC’s from other sites and then listening at podbean…haven’t spent as much time on there as I would like. Anyway, great resource.
There are a few tune books on Michael Eskin’s site. If you click on Irish Music, there are three in the list. Not every tune is flute friendly, but most are. I’ve only downloaded one of them, but there are some good tunes in it.
on the other hand there’s nothing flute ‘unfriendly’ about the general tune books you can buy. Handy to have a copy of the Comhaltas books and/or O’Neill’s if like dots. You can always skip unfriendly tunes.
