flat pipes in competitions-what do you all think?

I have looked over the CCE rules for solo competitions several times and see nothing about prohibitions against using narrow bore instruments in solo U.P. competitions. I just wonder whether it makes any difference to adjudicators if you’re playing a wide bore or a narrow bore instrument. I suspect that the variables in play are quite numerous and ultimately the choice of instrument is irrelevant, so long as it’s in tune and working well.

Thoughts? Comments?

Depends who is adjudicating? I just hope they’d merit the musicality above all else.

Cheers
Alan

Fourth paragraph:
“…And most uilleann pipers do not enter competitions, which are considered meaningless by many and even counterproductive.”

Well, I have no idea about CCE regs and their opinions or thoughts. However, mine are that it should not matter and that, if it did, it would be entirely ridiculous.

I am the all Withington Champion piper. I enterd the competition and won! …
There was only me in the competition, and my cat was judging.

So would I, Alan.

A gorgeously in tune, easy and responsive instrument can only help the cause, though.

And who better to give an honest response
