My wife is deathly afraid of butterflies.
No joke.
I of course delight on pointing out butterflies everwhere we go; real ones, pictures, plates and cups.
I also spend a lot of time on the couch.

its a parasite that lives in a snail and attracts attention to birds, so they come down and eat the snail and pass on the parasite!!

Yes, I have no fear of most arthropods, but centipedes, really big arachnids and the bigger biting and stinging insects do give me a bit of a shiver. I think it’s more of a respect than a fear thing, though, as I can get myself to pick up anything I know will not hurt me if I handle it right. The more harmless big arthropods look more like small animals than really big bugs to me. I don’t fear butterflies, but the twitchy way they fly is bat-like enough I could see how they could make one freak. I’m not afraid of harmless snakes, but the combination of snaky body movements and lots of twitchy legs on centipedes does make me fear them a bit more than other scary arthropods.

P.S., does anyone live where they have lawn shrimp? They seem like they would make interesting live specimens. Actually, I might be willing to pay good money for just about any non-endangered, interesting living organism someone might want to send my way!
I know a girl who breeds (or used to breed, I haven’t talked to her in a long time) the giant australian cockroaches. She mails them out for like $10 including shipping and $4 for each additional one in the same container, I think. I’ll ask if you want me to.
I think it’s interesting the way she mails them: in Pringles cans with wet dog food to sustain them while they’re in the postal system. The last time I talked to her, she had never had a single cockroach die while in the mail.
