Today I tweaked three whistles…my first attempt! I have made quite a few from scratch, but have been ill and not quite got back to making yet, so I bought three Gens this morning, brought them home and decapitated them. They now play very nicely thank you, and I am pleased with myself!
Woohoo!
Best wishes,
Jerry
Way to go, mate!!!
Could you take some pictures or mp3’s so we could see/hear your achievement? ![]()
Oh, and one tiny question. My friend asked me to tweak her Guinness Walton’s D. So i tried, but it seems that i screwed something up in the process. It could be that i scraped too much of the material off the blade (shrill upper octave indicates that, i guess) so the window is too long now.
On the other hand, entire whistle seems crappier than even the Generations…the white head was a bit bent and twisted, with a tiny hole in the windway, and the body has almost no weight. Now don’t know if i really screwed up something, or it’s just to crappy, even for tweaking. When i switch heads with Gen, Waltons head with Gen body is bearable, but just (for some reason, F’s and G’s are horribly flat and chiffy, while other notes are fine), and Waltons body with Gen head is plain terrible, shrill and unplayable.
Should i obtain another Walton and take it’s head (a friend of mine is currently in Ireland)? Is ordinary brass compatible with Guinness edition, or should i look for little black one???
Or just give up tweaking the Waltons whatsoever?
P.S. Did anyone else had clogging problem with Waltons? This one clogs after one minute. Horrible.

Cut up your credit card, (ALWAYS a good idea!), and cut a small square to fit over the damaged ramp. Secure it with “poster putty” until you find a configuration you like. Then glue it down with something permanent. I’ve tweaked several whistles that way successfully.
Good luck!
(Of course, any thin plastic will work…
).
Well, yeah, i already used my SIM card. ![]()
So, you think i should make completely new ramp, eh? ![]()
It’s amazing isn’t it, what you can do with little effort already. Getting the head of, filling te cavity under the windway, git rid of redundant plastic, sharpen the blade, and it gives so much improvement. I’m glad these things are shared with everyone, so everybody can do at least a bit of tweak (probably nothing compared to Jerry F., but still…) and get a good cheap whistle. I did it on my 3 gens, a high G, D and Bb and soon on an F.
No, I am not going into competition with Jerry! These are purely for personal consumption! The same as the home made whistles: play very nicely, well in tune…but look terrible! Definitely not saleable! It is fun, though!
