Well, I had my first ever flute lesson yesterday. Picked out a student flute, and was able to manage a full C Major scale. (Albeit breathy here and there.)
Turns out the teacher I selected goes to a local school for Irish Dance (I go to a different school), and loves Irish music, so I am set!
I just read a manuscript of musical reviews and letters from c.1880 England(can’t recall author at the moment) who told a friend: “You can surely take up the flute, but it’s a tedious little instrument from which you’re surely to be bored and tired in little time. Play the cornet, which is much more interesting and demanding.”
Go figure.
