Not quite as exciting as the title suggests Im afraid…
I just noticed that the last track on the A side of Fintan’s Traditional Irish Flute Music LP isn’t included on the track lists.
It is a set of reels and if my tune-name memory serves me well the first two are the Cornerhouse and the Knotted Chord (AKA Jnr Crehan’s Fave) but I cant identify what follows? Any ideas?
…just seen on Fintans site that this has been re-issued on CD as The Dark Loanen (WHN 003). Anyone got it? I would imagine this will have a complete track listing???
hey mat,
i believe the first reel might actually be called “the stone in the field” (a close relative of the mighty “cornerhouse” reel). the last tune might very well be “the return to camden town” and can be found in fintans “timber” flute tutor, i think it is about the last tune in the book where he demonstrates how to handle notes that fall below low D. i don’t recognize the one before it but would simply refer to it as “the one that comes before”
“the beauty spot”, a lovely tune, starts off the last set of tunes on the other side of the tape, i think it’s labeled as “carey’s”. the tune after that is labeled as “the shephard’s daughter” but it sounds more like “paddy taylor’s reel” (from the book “timber”), a tune cathal mcconnell may have also recorded. in any event, it’s a fine collection of tunes though, not a bum in the lot!
