In an effort to connect traditional Irish musicians with others around them, for the purpose of new practice opportunities, sessions etc we have constructed a map of the world with trad musicians on it. Its going to take some time to reach critical mass but with a little help we will get there. The map is on the home page of tradconnect.com which is a free and non commercial site. To add your details you will need to join. Thanks to C&F for permission to post here.
For those who are not already members, Tradconnect is an incredible site and resource for all who love ITM. Join, you won’t regret it. I run across a good number of Chiffers on Tradconnect. ![]()

I was a member for a while, mainly because content was blocked to non members. The moment they started sending out messages listing ‘famous’ members to push the website I signed off. Nauseating and clueless.
Mr. Gumby,
Not sure what you are refering to, I have never received any message from Tradconnect listing “famous” members??? Do you mean an emailed list goes out??? Sure, the site does in some instances list that a musician of great talents has joined Tradconnect, but I think the majority of members find that such people can be great resources of information and contribute to the flow of information on ITM related subjects. It seems that the site also profiles a lot of “up and coming” performenrs, is a venue for the promotion of newly released recordings, a forum for ITM related topics, has a “classified” section for used instruments, etc. I think most Chiffers might find it to be a good reference source and definitely worth joining.

Well, I did and I thought it was the ultimate in bad taste. I think it’s typical of the site’s mindset, the whole promotional/celebrity thing that is totally alien to the traditional music world as I know it. That aside, the people listed are only there to promote their commercial efforts (which is fine if you’re into that) but there’s not really any engagement that would justify calling the site a ‘resource’ for that reason.
Anyhow, it’s not for me and I was glad I washed my hands of it.
