Just wondering if any of you folks know of any good resources for finding musicians for a band, such as backup guitar, or a fiddler. Outside of the local session, I’m kind of stumped about where to look, as irish music is rather a niche industry.
Thanks for any help you can provide
Greg
Check with local celtic type dance groups-Scots, Irish, Contra, etc.
When I lived in Denton (TX) the celtic dance group had a couple of guitar players, a couple of bodhran players, a magnificent fiddler, a wonderful whistle/harpist, a piper, a whistle player, and several talented vocalist. All in a fairly small dance group.
Best, John
Ted Crane’s Dance Database lists not just dances but callers and musicians. It’s a beautiful, intricate piece of work and you can search by all kinds of criteria, starting with state (Texas is there).

Thanks…I’ll give 'em a shot.
I’m looking at the same problem (trying to start a session here in town though); I just put posters up everywhere though…
