I’m looking for either sheet music or fingering charts for the song “Fields of Athenry” I’ve got some of it down by ear, but it doesn’t sound right all the way through. Does anyone have any links where I might find this info.
Thanks.

Let me update my earlier post:
You can find a MIDI version here</A](http://www.ingeb.org/songs/byalone2.mid>here</A)>.
Use a program like Cakewalk to view the notation if necessary.
This is a pretty accurate version in the key of C, but my recording by The Dubliners was done in the key of E… probably with a B natural whistle half-holed to get the A note, but might actually be a low E.

Ed,
JC’s has one match at: <a href=http://ecf-guest.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/FindTune?P=fields+of+athenry&m=title&M=&L=&K=&W=max&count=100&thresh=5&find=find>Field of Athenry It shows the midi, ABC, and Gif. You can listen to the midid to verify it’s the tune your looking for.
I noticed it in the key of F which may be why you were having problems. If you start it on a C whistle (using oxxooo for the Bb note) you should be able to get along with the tune. For me often knowing the Key and the starting and ending notes goes a long way to getting the tune down.
Hope this helps you …

You can also find Fields of Athenry in Soodlum’s 100 Irish Ballads in the key of G. The book and accompanying CD is available from Mel Bay.
I should have mentioned that it is Volume 2 of Soodlum’s. Sorry about that.

sorry to bring this topic up from so long ago but i think it may be the only place left to try:
does anyone know where i can get tin whistle (D whistle) fingering for the Fields of Atherny,
any help please ![]()
I’ve got the score in front of me right now but it’s in G. Can you transpose? I can scan it and email it if it’s any good to you.
If it’s in G, it should be playable on a D whistle no problem.

In fact, the link that LeeMarsh provided offers a version in G, and I just played it through on my Whitecap D no problem. Pretty tune, that.

Here are some internet versions avaliable:
One in G (found in a small collection of playable tunes):
http://www.trump.net.au/~jhunter/book_dots.pdf
One in F: http://sniff.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/pages/tiATHNRY;ttATHNRY.html
(Even with pennywhistle notation that you can use with any whistle):
http://sniff.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/lookup.cgi?tt=ATHNRY&ti=ATHNRY&tab=w
Geegee said he/she has a D whistle, so the G version is what’s wanted. That’s the fourth choice at JC’s, in the link Lee Marsh posted.
