Feadóg Pro Clips

A few weeks ago I had mentioned in one of my posts that I was wanting to purchase a Feadóg Pro to check out since I had not yet played one. jkrazy52 was kind enough to PM me and offer to send me her unused model. I’m typically not fond of nickel whistles; not because of playing characteristics but because I have a difficult time hanging on to the slick nickel while playing. Perhaps my fingertips sweat more than normal?
Still, I found it to be a very nice whistle. I promised jkrazy52 that I would share my impressions of the whistle and a few clips once I had a chance to do so:

Jig
Reel

These are raw recordings. No reverb or after-effects have been added as I’d rather the whistle be heard for what it is.

I found it very easy to play for the most part. It did have a tendency to buzz in the bottom of the low register but it was controllable (though I believe you can still here some of that in the recordings) by changing embouchure and breathing. I also had to make sure to use T3 for cuts on D, E and F in the upper register to avoid unwanted noises. My brass Feadóg and Generations are a little more flexible in that aspect (the option of using T2).

Thanks to jkrazy52 for her generosity and if I ever have the opportunity to return the favor or pay it forward I will certainly do so.

Nice, especially Junior Crehan’s!

Yeah about that slippery tube… :poke:

The whistle sounds worlds better in your hands, straycat82! I enjoyed both clips immensely. If you worry about owing a favor, just pay it forward sometime. Best way to operate IMO.

BTW, a friend on another board used a dot of the soft part of velcro to help his grip on slippery whistles.

Thanks for the tip jkrazy52, and again for your generosity.

Hi Straycat,

I’ve got a Feadog too - and I 2nd your comments about the slippery tube, but got used to it pretty quickly - especially after I applied some surgical tape to it. Mine was practically unplayable in the 2nd octave until I did the stick-tac and windway tweaks. Now I’d say it’s a pretty ok player - I wouldn’t be afraid to pull it out at a session. my only gripe is I can’t push it like I can my Burke but that’s not a fair comparison now is it? Volume & tone are very good, I find I just have to work more at breath control to keep it from squalking.

Best,

Deisman
