Hello,
soon it will be Christmas and they are playing “silent night…” and so on. Well.
I am looking for some fine slow tunes for flute, melancholic or sad, love or sorrow, slow and sentimental.
What are your favorite slow Irish tunes?
And beside they are great for practicing.
Make your billboard, please.
kind regards, Herbert
My current slow favorite is “Song of the Books” or “Amhran na Leabhar”

My current default ‘give us a tune’ tune is ‘The Abbess’ by Andy Cutting - one of his very best, and just great on flute or low whistle.
Another tune/song that can be played absolutely heart wrenching on the pipes or flute/low whistle is Skibbereen..

And The Bantry girl’s lament

Suitable for the season: Dona Nobis Pacem. (Not exactly slow … I prefer it Andante rather than Largo.)

Also seasonal: Taladh Chriosda (Christ Child Lullaby)
Haven’t found a flute version on YouTube, but this one’s nice…

Amid all the “Stille Nacht,” Do you hear “Stille, Stille, Stille,” much there?
Thanks to the Scottish legend (Kenny) for this one:
