Well, I searched on The Session and here, and before I resign myself to building the only Irish session in Fargo, North Dakota, is there anyone here who knows if there’s a trad community up in this area?
Thanks!

An update for posterity: There is a session in this area! It meets at the home of some players living in Fergus Falls, MN, which is about 45mins-1hr west of Fargo-Moorhead. There is also a small Irish music community at Concordia College in Moorehead. As I move up to the area and find out whether there is a pub-style session (or if we can get one started) I will continue to update this thread.
Hey! I’ve looked into the trad scene around Fargo too, and yeah, it seems pretty quiet. I haven’t found any regular sessions happening, but there are a few musicians around who play Irish tunes, and sometimes you’ll catch trad mixed into local folk or acoustic events. You might end up starting something yourself, which honestly could be pretty cool—there’s probably more interest out there than it seems. You could keep an eye on The Session’s listings just in case anything new pops up (https://thesession.org/sessions), and this article has some great tips on starting a session if you decide to go for it (https://www.folkmusic.net/htmfiles/inart520.htm). Also, you could try checking out something like GoWithGuide https://gowithguide.com/ to see if there are any local guides or cultural folks who know more about the music scene there—it might turn up some surprising leads. If you do end up organizing something, definitely share it—would love to hear how it goes!
Thanks for the reply! I’ve been looking, and have decided to try and start my own thing. Getting connected with local players is the tough part, but I’m committed to making it happen. Thanks for the recommendations, I will definitely give it all a look.
