I noticed that one of the registered users logged in is “Jack London.” I’ll bet he has to use plastic or composite whistles. Lips on a metal whistle in his climate can’t be a good thing..

I didn’t know Jack London plays whistle. I did know Stephen King plays guitar.

hi, just got home, am a bit tipsy.
I was going to say something snarky, but I won’t now
Will someone please define snarky??? This term was used recently in our local left-leaning rag (i.e. daily newspaper) referrring to a WOMAN Republican who was “successful without being snarky.” It was damning with faint praise of course, I guess.
They put that in the headline and in the body copy. I had never seen that word prior to that and not until Izzy’s post just now.

In the online-U.S. context I’ve seen, it usually fits more to the dictionary.com definition.
Cranky, irascible, critical, complaining, fault-finding . . . in someone who knows better than to think sharing such complaints is polite.
“Well, not to sound snarky here, but . . . it just seems to me that . . . there might be a better use of one’s time than . . .”

We had a “snarky” phase here awhile back. Izzy and Ad can fill you in.
I would be shocked to see that phrase in a supposedly professional newspaper. Then again I’m shocked to see a lot of crap in supposedly professional media.
