Fading Jerry Freeman Tweaked Logos?

I have two of Jerry’s fine tweaked whistles with the clear logo sticker, one Shaw and one Generation. The printing and logo on both of the stickers have faded. The one on the Shaw is almost completely gone, and the sticker on the Generation is a little over half gone. I haven’t done anything like expose them to sunlight. They’re either just sitting on my desk or on a carrying case.

Anyone else seeing this?

Bob

Hi, Bob.

Really?

I’ll call the printer who supplies my stickers right away. It’s a company that specializes in stickers, so I’m very surprised. Has anyone else noticed this?

(I distinctly remember that I did NOT check the box for the special disappearing ink feature when I placed the order for the stickers.)

Best wishes,
Jerry

o00o0o0oh, and I thought I was just crazy! =P

Happened to my tweaked Generation as well! By the way, they rock =]

Cheers,
Armand

Aaaaargh!

You’d think they would have worked this sort of thing out after about the 100 millionth sticker they’ve printed, now wouldn’t you?

Thanks for letting me know about it. I’ll put our best people on it.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Jerry, maybe a dumb question - is the printing on the stickers on the inside (sticky) part, or the outside? If it’s on the inside, maybe there’s some kind of reaction with the metal of the whistles.

Bob

I thought of that, too. Generations are lacquered, so there’s no contact with metal on them. The ink’s on the outside of the sticker, though. Strange. Like I said, you’d think they would have got something like that pretty well nailed down by now.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Jerry,

The day you start offering tweaked stickers will be the day we know you’ve gone over the edge.

Hi Jerry,

This also happened to my whistles (Shaw, Gen). I remember actually being able to rubb it off with my hands if I tried. I was thinking it might be better to have the print on the inside, as to protect it. The ink has stayed on one of the whistles which I play far less than the other one, on which the ink has disapeared.

Regards,
Daniel

Oops. I just discovered this thread. Sorry to have PMed you about it, Jerry.

It seems that regular finger oil (due to burritos, cheese, peanuts, etc.) is enough to cause it to rub off. Perhaps the label company didn’t realize that the stickers might be subject to a lot of handling?

Mine’s gone too. I was sorry to see it go! Such an engaging little creature. The sticker itself is still firmly attached, though.

Time to start engraving your logo…

A “Jerry Freeman Tweaked” metal stamp, complete with Mouse! But where would you get one?

The metal stamp idea has merit, but there are technical problems.

I’ve trained Mouse to attach the labels (had to scrap quite a few until he figured out how to keep from getting fur stuck to them). However, he can’t swing a hammer hard enough to metal-stamp a logo. In fact, on a good day, he’s lucky if he can even get a hammer to budge.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Ha. You know what that just reminded me of, Jerry?

Awww …

I haven’t checked all my Jerry-tweaked whistles but those I have checked showed no signs of fading. If Darwin is right, I guess this is proof that I have a much healthier diet than American whistlers.

Even if the logos do fade, I somehow don’t think I’m going to have a problem figuring out which of my Gens are tweaked and which untweaked.

I hadn’t replied to Darwin’s post yet, but since you mentioned his, I will now.

The fading on my Jerry whistles had nothing to do with excessive touching of the logo sticker (mouse fetish? ) I don’t normally touch that part of the whistle when I play them. There’s some patina around the tone holes and where my thumbs rest on my Jerration, but nothing anywhere else.

Bob

Much as I like mice…

I don’t touch that area while playing, either, but I always swab out a whistle after playing it–even if I may just be setting it down for a half hour or so. At the same time, I often wipe it down, either just with my bare hands, or maybe on my T-shirt, to sort of desmudge it.

Since mine is nickel, and relatively new, it hasn’t yet gotten its first rubdown with Wright’s brass polish.

The logo stickers are quite slick, which is why I guessed that the ink was just rubbing off. It’ll be interesting if it turns out that the ink is fading due to exposure to light. That should be easy to test with a new sticker–just put it somewhere that gets a lot of direct sunlight.

There was a time when I would have been more sceptical about a black ink fading, but who knows what miracles can be performed by modern science? :stuck_out_tongue:

Mine has been standing unused in a vase for several months, the logo has faded and more so on the one side, indicating light can be a factor.

Mine too. And it’s next to a window. More on the side the light shines on.

This is very helpful.

I’ll be talking to someone at the sticker company today, and I’ll direct them to this thread.

Best wishes,
Jerry
