For some timeI have been thinking of investing in a good low D whistle. After hearing good things about Eyer whistles I sent John an e-mail to inquire about price. He wrote back and told me that due to health concerns he was not making whistles at this time. Then he offered to give me…his low D..yes you read that right,give me his low D.
A few days later came a whistle that has the most amazing sound I have ever heard in a low whistle. It looks much like an Overton,tunable,robust,etc…
The sound is full and rich,in tune,slightest bit of chiff,in short wonderful..I certainly have a long way to go in learning the low D,but I have a great instrument to learn it on.
My many thanks to John and God speed a quick recovery…
His whistles are great and if he returns to building I will fill my case with them…

Dave, would you have a bit more info about the Eyer whistles? I’d be curious to know, and to see a picture of the Low D, too, if you can manage it.

I knew you’d like it! The low G I have is a really good whistle, just like the one you described. The only thing I think I’d ever considering replacing it with is maybe a Burke composite G or a Reyburn G. I hope he recovers soon. He’s a really nice businessman. Did you get a case with yours, and does it have the white delrin plug?
This was his personal whistle. It has a white delrin plug,but no case…If I ever run across one of his others I’ll certainly grab it.
I have several of his whistles as well as several Overtons. Other than minor cosmetics I can’t tell the difference in looks or sounds!! They’re certainly wonderful whistles! And here I had been thinking about getting ahold of him again…oh well…
