Extremely OT but extremely hot! $400 scanner/printer/fax/cop

Okay. Yesterday I bought a HP Officejet d134, normally priced at $399, from Staples for $90. The thing is incredible. It scans/faxes/copies (color copies too)/prints, all in extremely high quality, If your Staples has them in stock you can get one for $90 as well.
Here’s how you do it.
Go to your local Staples and pick up the d135 and bring it to the counter. Show them this receipt http://www.windwizard.net/publicfolder/staples.jpg and tell them you’d like to pricematch it. They’ll probably tell you that it was a mistake or someone faked the reciept. Go ahead and tell them to call corporate headquarters and they will confirm that it’s valid. They will call and headquarters will indeed validate it. They will then punch in a code that will automatically deduct $200, bringing the price down to $200. At this point present them with the $30 off coupon which can be found here (make up a reasonable sounding e-mail address when it prompts you for one): http://65.108.247.49/jwong1268/$30off$150_exp._12-13-02.htm

They may argue that you can’t use more than one coupon. Reply by telling them that they used the first discount code, not you, and that it wasn’t a coupon, it was a corporate authorization. They should see the light at that point.

So now your price is down to $170 for $400 machine. Go ahead and pay for the thing but wait a minute after your reciept prints out because just after it an $80 gift card rebate form will print out. Follow the instructions on the form and send it in for your $80 gift card.

In the end, your price is, after all is said and done, $90 for a $400 machine.

Good luck and let me know if this works out for you. If you are up for trying it you ought to do it right away, because stores are selling out fast.

Best,
Chris

Hey, this is a such a great deal that when I arrived at my local Staples in Atlanta, someone had come in and bought 10 in one go!!

Luckily, he missed one, hiding behind a bunch of scanners, and now I’m a proud owner of an HP all in one. (I’d been looking at these a couple of weeks ago, but all the ones in my price range weren’t good enough or had other issues.)

Now the hard part - I’ve just got to convince “she, who must be obeyed” that I should use the savings I’ve made for that Copeland A I’ve been dreaming about…

Thanks for the info - I knew this board would save me money one day - instead of encouraging the spending of it!

Whooo hooo!
I’m glad a fellow Chiffboarder got in on this. Yeah, I considered buying all 4 in the store and selling 3 on e-bay, but I felt like I was pushing my luck as it was. Besides, only buying one left 3 great deals for other people to enjoy.
Best,
Chris

jt - was that a “Rumpole of the Bailey” reference? Great show!

Philo

Thanks Chris - Santa came early this year! They told me that they wouldn’t be restocking until the 14 days was up (losing too much money!) - I wonder what Office Depot, Circuit City etc. will do?

Philo - yes it is from Rumpole, who in turn got it from Rider Haggard’s novel, She. Better known by the film with Ursula Andress as Ayesha. Made a big impression on me when I was younger!

SHE who must be obeyed! …SHE who must be loved! …SHE who must be possessed!

(They don’t write bylines like that anymore)

You’re all sick!
