'Extra note' whistle

Has anyone tried the Silkstone “Ace” Whistle Tunable - Dplus Model? It’s a D whistle with an extra finger hole on the bottom that gives a C natural note. I’m very interested in it, but balk at the $360 price tag. :astonished:

(You can see it at the Whistle Shop’s website…)

Does anyone make a similar whistle at a reasonable price?

Would any of the whistle makers on this board be willing to make one for me?

Any feedback is appreciated!

I edited the title and content of my post to be more precise about what I’m looking for.

If any whistle makers want to make one of the above mentioned whistles for me, please contact me!

Thanks!

There’s also a Silkstone alloy D+, for about $140, available at the Whistle Shop. I haven’t received mine yet, but the Silkstona alloy is a dynamite whistle.

Thanks chas. I went to the web site, but couldn’t find the whistle you’re talking about. Where do I need to look?

-I learned of the Alloy D+ on Paul Hayward’s Silkstone Whistles site, inquired of Thom Larson at The Whistle Shop-found he had them in stock, and ordered. The rest is whistory. (groannnn…) The extra C-natural gives it more latitude in some tunes-like “Maria” from “Westside Story”-allowing the right note to be played rather than one an octave up. The note also plays well in high register, and the whistle has a strong, bright and fairly pure sound overall and nimble responsiveness. I’m quite pleased with it. -At less than half the going price for a Silkstone “Ace” whistle, these are not only a wonderful instrument, but a good deal as well.

Oops! I thought TWS carried them. You can find them at

They’re £78 or 91 with VAT.

I have one coming in the mail – I can give you my impressions in a couple of weeks. I do wonder how adjusting to the pinky hole will be. I can definitely see it being useful for pieces that go down to C, but I think it will take some adjustment to use the middle Cnat.
