I think Overton has done this on a custom low D.Does anyone have a soprano with this modification?I would imagine the hole would be somewhere under the barrel between G & F#.Would anybody who has made this modification be willing to share how this is done and comment on its effectiveness? Thanks in advance,Mike
Haven’t done this, but I think the thing to do would be first to try it on a cheapie whistle!!
Make a tiny hole in the desired location, then gradually increase the size until you get the desired F natch. There are formulae regarding hole size and placement, but this quick and dirty method may work OK. If you use a cheapo whistle, you can cover up any undesirable results with tape
Forget the extra hole…why not snug your middle finger up against your index finger that’s on the F#? Works for me…I’m telling you…I’m getting to be whiz at this half holing stuff. I get lots of practice…starting with Out of Africa…lest we forget! LOL Gm

Actually the F natural is between the F# and E holes. I have the Modal DC.

Gannymouse,
thanks a lot for the half hole tip…works great!
Mark,
Thanks for the pics, what a nice looking instrument.I’ll mess around with a brass Waltons or Gen and see what happens…I may even try adding an extension for the 7th hole.Peace,Mike ![]()
