I’ve been listening to the most lovely sounding pipes, a B set played by Evertjan on his band’s recent CD, The Blackbird, on the first tune: Return to Clifden. He tells me he they are 30+ years old, and the maker is unknown… bought them in a pawnshop in London.

Now I’ve been listening to a lot of piping music, and these pipes have such incredible and expressive tone; I’ve not heard anything like them before… the sound is truly amazing to my ears and I am just drawn into it, listening to each note. Wow!

Now, certainly, this may also be due to Evertjan’s talent, which isn’t lacking, but the sound is breathtaking!

Aside from that, and taking nothing away from the rest of the group, this is a really excellent CD, by a terrific band, and should be in everyone’s collection.

elbogo I agree… Evertjan seems to have cornered the expressive chanter market with ‘Clifden’ He originally posted a picture of the chanter and short sound file on the heatnet Uilleann forum, probably 2-2 1/2 years ago. It was a slightly different version than the CD (equally as good) and he played it solo. Shortly thereafter I bought a B chanter, but I’m still unable to capture that much expression despite my attempts at tweaking.

Evertjan is registered on C&F and has posted a few times, perhaps he’ll see this message and repost a picture of his chanter.

Hi Tony! In your personal experiences, do t’ Hart’s pipes sound similiar to any that you’ve heard before? Taylor, Harrington, coyne, etc? Any ideas?
