Ever wonder why they call them "Tin Whistles"?

I just won this antique tin whistle, actually made from tin! (and lead solder) :frowning: I will probably coat the whistle with a clear shellac, to prevent lead poisoning…
The whistle is a conical Bb, has a nice mellow tone, the second octave shift is a dream. Not bad for $5!

It is absolutely gorgeous! But lead poisoning is not a good thing to risk.

Well at least it doesn’t have a lead fipple like the other 4 antique whistles… :boggle: I don’t think I would be regularly playing any fo these antiqu whistles, but they are fun to check out.
I checked the tuning further, and it is actually a C whistle that is tuned to A=435 htz It would play right in tune with my antique flutes.
