Ever hear of a subcontrabass flute? Here's your big chance!

Literally big:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220334352963&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123

It’s made of PVC plumbing pipe… and it’s only $2200!

I’ll pass.

Oh my god Art, that’s F**ing crazy hehe .. It looks that the guy is a serious inventor hehe..

Here’s a photo (click to enlarge):

i’m i the only one who really really wants it?

Yep, it’s yours Daiv! Do you think you could play it?

Yes comming from the biggest flute fraternitiy the Protestant marching Bands, such bands as Ballylone and Dykehead Amateurs have used Contra-Bass and Sub-Contra Bass for years its no wonder we have given you world Champion flute bands and the best players in the world such as James Galway.

Quis Separabit, Faugh a Ballagh

geesh!

The ebay description for the flute reads, “and it actually plays in tune”. Miracle of miracles, for $2200 I should hope so.

Nice, but I’m gonna wait for the telescoping, pocket version.

I have trouble imagining that it would make a sound that’s attractive, or useful. Or even sonic.

I wrote to the guy and asked him to post a sound clip and he replied:

“I ned to find someone who can actually paly this beast! IT is hard for me to ge tthe fundamental to sound but I’m not a flute player. I’ll try to find someone.”

Spelling was his, BTW… I’m pretty sure there are a LOT of better ways to spend $2200 - $2500 on a flute! There’s some guy in Australia with a bushy gray beard that would get my money if I had it! (Hi, Terry!)

I’m not a maker, so I’m just asking: how do you voice a flute you can’t play?

You can hear it on the maker’s website:

http://home.hetnet.nl/~jelinbama/pages/subcontrabaseflute.html

Hmmm… The one on the website and the one in eBay are quite different in appearance. In fact, the website one has a kind of mouthpiece thingee…

the picture right after this text?

Although the flute was designed to be an ensemble instrument it was immediately discovered by various solo artists who saw the merits for their musical purposes.
With the “fipple” headpiece it makes a recorder with unprecedented depth!!

Gorgeous! Play “Stairway to Heaven”!!

I’m pretty sure whales will enjoy the song made by this flute… and you can talk to elephants 100 Km away.

“Come have some peanuts and tea” I would tell them.

That sound clip wants to make me get right off of the toilet and flush quickly!

Are they not aware that there are recorders even bigger than this flute?..
