erik the flutemaker's wooden whistles

In his videos they sound really good and mellow. I’m wondering what your thoughts are. Do they require any special maintenance? Good value?

I had a Cocobolo whistle in D from Erik and it was a very mellow, rich-toned instrument. The fipple is a Susato so it is very good quality.
Maintenance is only a little almond oil on the wood every 6 months or so. I think the value is there price-wise.

The only reason I sold it it was because of the large toneholes. Too large for me anyway. I don’t have thin fingers either (but I do prefer the smaller toneholes of Baroque/French style flutes however) but they were at least 30-35% larger than my Clark, Generation and Feadog whistles. Big!

the holes seemed bigger in the pictures but I hadn’t considered how that might affect me. i feel like i need to see one in person to be certain
