Thought you might be interested to know, if you don’t already, that Eric is playing on Josh Groban’s new CD, “Closer”, which will be released on November 11. If you go to www.joshgroban.com , you can hear the entire track of “You Raise Me Up” ..a beautiful song and Eric’s playing seems pretty good.

I wonder if he does any traditional stuff??

I play with Eric quite regularly at our local session. He is a serious player… in the Keenan vein. His pipes are the most in tune set I have ever heard… equal temperament of course.

Is his head filled with traditional tunes, Patrick, and how does he do on them? Does he insist on sheet music or play by ear and memory?

Yes, I think I heard that he plays a Froment set too.

Re: You Raise Me Up. Coincidently, I played pipes in a locally recorded version of this song last summer. I never did hear the finished copy. Basically, it was a cover of a song in which Liam O’Flynn played. I’ve forgotten who made the original recording.

You can’t be serious about the sheet music Lawrence… are you? Of course he doesn’t use it… you wouldn’t last long in any session I’ve seen using sheet music! He has loads of tunes and plays them very well… he’s a serious piper.. and I don’t throw that sort of complement around lightly.

He has a Froment set, yes. He plays an Eamonn Curren boxwood chanter now though, nice stick!

This same recording is also available on VHS with Eric seen playing in different irish locations along with irish scenary and villages. Though I doubt that Eric is really playing next to the fireplace with roaring fire in one scene. That fire would dry up the room real fast!
