Enya watch

I also love Enya.

When I said “unaided” I meant a capella, without machines garbling the vocals. I can’t find the video now but I watched an interview she gave where the host asked if she spoke Gaelic. She said of course, and he asked her to say something for him. She sang an Irish song right there on the spot. The audience was clapping to keep the beat and everybody seemed amazed that she could do that.

Why should they be amazed? She grew up in the Donegal Gaeltacht. Irish is her first language. Many of the Irish songs that she and Clannad made famous were tunes they’d learned in school, just jazzed up a bit.

They were amazed for two reasons: 1) Many people (such as the majority of the members on this forum) have a low opinion of Enya and expect her to be a talentless sold-out brand rather than a musical artist with genuine talent and 2) it’s not every day that people hear a genuine Irish person singing or speaking real Irish language.

So she’s batting .500 then?

I guess I take the middle ground here: I like Enya.

However, there are some I like better, like Clannad, the Seekers, and

ducking to dodge the :tomato:

Fairport Convention.

Actually, I can easily see cowtime’s connection to Maxfield Parrish, and, frankly, I’d be surprised if Enya and company weren’t somehow inspired by the same such art, at least on that particular tune, Caribbean Blue.

However, beyond any of the productions Enya and company have done, it’s a wonder to watch them come and go on Youtube.

Here today, sometimes including literally millions of hits, and then gone, tomorrow!

As I was saying, it’s something of a sport, to watch.

She’s the kid sister or cousin of the Brennans of Clannad fame, who were a pretty good trad outfit before they struck airline TV commercial soundtrack gold.

When I watched the video of Caribbean Blue the video put me in mind of Maxfield Parrish’s paintings- along the lines of this- nothing more- 'course he did have a blue named after him, you know- “Parrish blue”

Parrish the thought! :astonished:

Perhaps you’ve seen a winter image of Santa and his antlered reindeer?

Well, in fact, male reindeer drop their antlers by later in the fall season, and only female reindeer have antlers during the winter.

Yes, it’s true.

And, perhaps that could help to give female reindeer some “elbow room”, to help them carry their young to a springtime delivery.

Hmmm? Could Rudolph actually be Rudolpha, with her nose so shiny bright?

Speaking of which…

That Parrish work I earlier mentioned, “A Path to Home”, is a beautiful, snow covered winter landscape done in moonlight blue.

And, if Maxfield Parrish managed to get a blue named after himself, it appears that he earned it!

strange…that is not the picture I posted last night… AND it’s not Maxfield Parrish, but Edmund Dulac- Gerda and the Reindeer

let’s try it again and see what happens- I’m using the same site, etc.

OK, I’ve posted Parrish’s Daybreak, now …will it change?

Oh and the Artsy Craftsy site is really nice- Arthur Rackham is my favorite of the bunch(he did a bunch of illustrations of Irish Fairy Tales, lots of good works by folks back in the day

http://www.artsycraftsy.com/#popular

ya got daybreakt…ain’t no stinkin’ t!
how that turns into a reinderr…

On that ArtsyCraftsy site, and thank you, cowtime, I found a Maxfield Parrish painting which includes features common to many of his other works.

For instance, just behind and below the rock the model sits on, there’s a large pool of water reflecting the rocks behind the pool.

I think the webmaster for the artsycraftsy store is way ahead of you. When you link the forum to an image on someone else’s site you put extra load on their server. To combat this, some sites will block outside links completely. In this case, no matter what images on the site you link to, they all get switched to this reindeer image, which is probably on a separate server, thus preventing you from draining their server resources while enabling them to continue advertising their store to you. Very clever.

If you want to see Maxfield Parrish images just use Google Images.

It seems you’re right, djm.

Now, when I posted the Parrish .jpg image last night, the link worked just fine, and I know because I tested it, first.

However, at some time between last night and now, apparently the ArtsyCraftsy site did wake up and smell the coffee, drat!

Edited: twice, and severely!

(Pssst, see my next post.)

Thar ya go! Yaaaay Denny got a Parrish.

OK, Maxfield Parrish fans, here’s the image I earlier tried to post, and note the reflecting pool in the foreground.

BTW, I’m still looking for a legit (and respectably decent) copy of Parrish’s “A path to Home”, and I’ll get back to you once I find one.

reflecting pool?  that’s some reflection!
