Rats! I thought I had a scoop! I was perusing your visit to England and noticed you had a pic of the post I had read this morning here.
Hey Tom,
I have one of those, or at least a variation of the one you have, that I too picked up off of Ebay a couple of years ago. I think I gave more for mine than you did for yours though.
My variation is that mine is a C whislte; 13 1/2 inches long and nickel. Another difference is that mine has 7 holes. I thought at first that it was a D whislte with the bottom hole to allow me to go down to C below a regular D whistle. No so. I’m not sure the purpose of the top hole. If I try to ignore the bottom hole and play it as a D whistle the scale is all out of sync. But when I taped up the top hole then it played just like a regular C whistle.
It has a nice mellow sound. I like it and it compares favorable with some of my expensive whistles. I pried off the bottom of the mouthpiece ramp (where your bottom lip normally rests when playing). That piece was soldered on. The “plug” inside is just a piece of cork that can me moved back and forth, sort of like the cork in the head of a flute. I’ve wondered how it would sound if the cork were replaced by a pice of delrin or other plastic. I’m not particularly handy so I might need to send it to a whistle smith to let them play with it. Any whistle smiths out there interested?
Anyway since your post I’ve pulled it out and figured out to tape the top hole to keep it simple enough for my limited talent. I’ve been having fun with it and enjoying the sound. You are right about the tuning slide…it is very, very smooth.
I may or may not put it in my whistle sale after the first or the year. Thanks for posting about yours. When I checked the picture of your whistle, I remembered mine stuck back in the dresser drawer.
BTW, I know another forum member who has one of these. Yours, his, the one Dale posted and mine are the only ones I’ve seen.
take care

Yep Jim I see it. Can you emagin a more adjustable whistle. Not only can you move the cork but you can change the size of the window. To much. I gota try and make one of these, maybe in low Eb or F. Realy a neet whistle.
