hi, so i’m trying not to over do this, but in case anyone is interested… there are a lot of interesting low whistles up for grabs. none are steals; they start at reasonable prices.
[small print: i’m not the seller, i can’t answer questions, i’m just posting these in case anyone who might not otherwise look might be interested…]
But hey, don’t get discouraged. I’m sure he appreciates the plug, and I for one enjoy these threads you post. Somehow you occassionally manage to find one or two that I miss.
As a former sax player I seem to have a particular affinity for brass instruments , something about the unique timbre, the patina they acquire, old brass even smells nice too (don’t get that with aluminium)
Funny you should compare the Gold Low D with a ‘war clubs’ I almost posted an anecdote recently how I ‘deterred’ three would be muggers with my aluminium Chieftain Low D (tunable one with the hefty external collett) Let’s just say if you swing one of those gripping round the ‘D’ hole, the collett make an ‘impression’
Heaven knows how the mighty weight of the Gold D would change attitudes?
I had a Chieftan Gold for a while. It had a very special tone, unlike anything else. It had probably the best 2nd octave of any Low D I’ve played, amazingly velvety smooth.
The weight was a big issue for me, so I got a Baritone Sax neck strap at a music shop. This strap has a big plastic clip at the bottom that can be clipped onto the bottom of a Low Whistle to support the weight, and being plastic it doesn’t scratch the whistle.
Afraid not Eric, I had a bid ready to send 10 secs before listing closed, when I clicked to place bid nothing happened then the ‘Listing Ended’ message popped up … ah well for the best really, given the blow to my finances I had last week (long saga about Incapacity Benefits and the Government moving goalposts etc) it was a luxury I couldn’t really afford
The MacNeil Titanium is still up for auction. I have an aluminum version that is a very nice whistle. Warm, clear sound, easy blower and a neat, adjustable mouthpiece that allows modification of the sound as well as ease of blowing into second octave. Dale did a short review back in 2006 - before the prices went up. You can find it at http://sites.google.com/site/dalewisely2/c&ftest-fireslong-rangenewsletter (you’ll have to scroll down a bit.)
