I have only seen about 30-40 chanters so far, but I would have to say that this one has the deepest, and most sharply defined scalloping of all. :astonished:

It almost looks a though you would have to have thin fingers to fit into the narrow scallops…

I had one of those nd it was awful. On doing some research i found out that wilkinson and mccarthy were better known for furniture manufacture. You`d get a better tune off a chair leg

Wilkinson and MacCarty trained in musical instrument making at the London College of Furniture which was the main place for training instrument makers. They did not actually make furniture.

This is a historical link going back to the days when furniture makers were the people who possessed lathes and would also turn wood for instruments. Jon Swayne of Blowzabella also learnt his instrument making there (indeed it is where the group Blowzabella was formed) and Kevin Rowsome also spent time there refining musical instrument workshop technique.

i stand corrected but from my experience of thier work i still reckon you`d get a better tune off your grannys chair leg!!

well, I know a fella who made a cello neck out of his mammy’s bedpost…

but that’s a different story I suppose.
