I think this is a Paki set. The mounts look a little like O’grady’s, but he says he got it from Lark in the MOrning. so I’m guessing Paki.
I have an O’grady’s practice set. The set up for sale looks definetly different from mine. Neil uses cedar I believe for the ferreles. Anyway, I think it is also a Paki set by the look of the bag itself.

Can you please desist from calling the sets made in Pakistan as PAKI sets. This is a very perjorative and rascist remark, well it is here in the UK.and it could well cause big time offence to people.Thanks.
I doubt it was meant to be offensive… However I sometimes question the intentions of those who call Americans ‘Yanks’
So what’s an acceptable name for pipes made in Pakistan? considering many of their instruments haven’t any markings whatsoever.
Joseph, O’Grady mounts are usually maple.

Whats wrong with “pipes made in Pakistan”?Paki is rascist end of story.
IF PAKI IS RACIST, THEN SO IS BRIT,SCOT,FRENCH,GERMAN ETC. ETC. USE SOME COMMON SENSE.
concise oxford dictionary:
Paki n. Brit, slang offens, Pakistani, esp an immigrant in Britain.
Now back to the “Bucks of Oranmore” Ladies n Gents.

rascist to you “Brits” maybe, but unknown to us “Yanks” and certainly not offensive as far as any of us knew.
I see the “Gods of Political Correctness” and the Language Police have found the C&F pipe forum.
Actually, folks, in Canada Paki is a terribly racist word - we used to use it as misguided children (to describe anyone from India, Pakistan and realated areas), but when we grew up to know better we started to call people from Pakistan – Pakistani. Hence, the pipes would be Pakistani in origin. To those who didn’t realize the pejorative connotation, which is actually very negative indeed, now you do (getting off soapbox). Thank you.
I have to agree with Paul. Ignorance is only an ‘excuse’ once. After you’ve been told, ignoring it is intentionally being offensive. Even if you decide it is the ‘PC police’ enforcing their views, why bother being intentionally offensive to a group of people based on race/country of origin/&c.
Dionys
Thankyou Paul agus Dionys, this is nothing to do with the Gods of PC or Language Police but about pointing out a wrong.I have been at the sharp end of rascist rioting and I have been abused when younger for being a “Paddy” in a WASP society.Seamus says use common sense I say (although what his point is fails me as none of the terms he uses is perjorative)use it wisely.Over here the Irish are not exactly loved nor the Pakistanis, imagine how you would feel if the term PADDY PIPES were applied to your pipes meaning that they are Irish therefore they are rubbish.Pakistani pipes are badly made by and large that should be suffice. As you have probably gathered this forum is worlwide or have I mistakenly joined some cosy little American outfit which has a Reasonable Person Principle but doesnt like to be reminded of it,well Seamus and Anima dont.

Yes, Paki is a racist word, i agree wholeheartedly.
BUT their pipes STILL SUCK! Untunable, unplayable, unreedable.
Pat…You say the pipes made in the Western section of the Asian continent “suck?”
Surely you can do better than conjure up images of the animal kingdom from that area with fairly large and loud drones, namely the pachyderms, or “pachies” as they are fondly referred to by the wildlife experts.
You see, now I’m offended.

ha ha Lorenzo.
Okay, pakistani-made uilleann pipes chanter bores are rough, the toneholes poorly spaced, and they can not produce an accurate scale without considerable and expensive reworking. I’m not just talking about a few cents here and there, I mean they do not produce anything resembling a correct scale. They sound like a bad scottish practice chanter, honestly.
Newbies, do yourselves a big favor and either get a Daye penny chanter or get on a waiting list. There are no shortcuts, and secondhand pakistani pipes are secondhand for good reasons.
this has truly turned into a crock of “paki-poop”. can we all shut our keg-holes and get back to playing?
I am Mixed race Indian and Irish. You offend me when you use the term Paki. I don’t suppose that you have ever been the butt of racist jokes or violence. I’m not being over sensitive but the word “PAKI” whatever the context offends me!
I live and work in the large multi ethnic city of Manchester UK. Call someone a Paki in Moss Side and you may well find you head stoved in. Nuff said!!!
All things being said Pakistani pipes aren’t very good. But not the worst I have seen
Ben,
Yer absolutely spot on. Some irish made pipes are crap too as are many from every country that has a crack at them.
So… we must stop saying Paki pipes or its going to end up Mick pipes/Yank Pipes/Spic Pipes or whatever (notice how derog terms are used only for bad pipes?). How about actually using the makers name ???
