I got a Susato VSB Dublin D a couple of weeks back, just for WhOA. I’ve had a Susato VSB Kildare D for a year, but could never get it to play nicely - it sounded like a snakecharmer’s pipe, all buzzy and hollow, and dropped notes occasionally (i.e. literally not sound a note at all).
For background, I’ve had a couple of other D Susatos for a couple of years, but only in the last couple of months have I found I could play them comfortably. I think my breath control has improved, and I now have no trouble with them, even hitting 3rd octave notes 
when required.
The new VSB has confirmed what other people have been saying for a while (and that’s why I wanted to give the VSB another go), it has all the good qualities of a Susato, but is much quieter - but this one doesn’t squawk like a goose, and it was only £12, which puts it back into the cheaper category for me.
I suspect the first one I got was a pre-production model-, a tester if you will, and wasn’t intended for general sale to the public. If I hadn’t been so keen to get one so soon after the announcement of their existence, I’d probably never have been tempted to buy it.
My only niggle about the VSB is that the holes still look hand drilled to me, whereas on the other models I have the holes seem integral to the moulding process- and are smoother under the fingertips. That said, the holes are quite small, so it’s not a major problem, just an observation.
