Early Flute Help

I recently got an early flute, it’s ceramic, and I can’t find a fingering chart for it. It is a transverse flute and has 8 holes. There are 3 right hand holes, and four right hand holes. The right hand holes are index, then two holes for the middle finger, one smaller one staggered (similar to on a recorder), then a hole for the ring finger and pinky. If anyone has any fingering information that would be great!

Can’t say for sure without knowing the maker. But it sounds like simple system diatonic with extended low C, and a split half hole for E/F-natural.

(C: xxx xxx x)
D: xxx xxx o
E: xxx xxo o
F: xxx x@o o (@ = half hole)
F#: xxx xoo o
G: xxx ooo o
A: xxo ooo o
B: xoo ooo o
C: oxx ooo o
C#: ooo ooo o

Repeat from D for the 2nd octave. If the flute is pitched in other than D, then these notes will be transposed accordingly. Hope that helps.

I wonder why you call it an “early flute”? It sounds like it’s one of a number of contemporary “world music” craft flutes.

Thanks for your help! My mom got the flute from someone who said it was modeled after an early renaissance flute, but I couldn’t find any type of renaissance flute that matched, so thanks for this!

A Christmas gift?
