Hi everyone,
Please check out my first Clips and Snips posting called Eamonn’s Reel (Chicago Reel). I originally found it on mp3.com, played by James Hunter. I recorded it some time ago accompanied just by bodhran, but after recently returning from a great conservation holiday decided to add piano, accordion, more whistles and some extra percussion. There are a few mistakes - but you should enjoy it as it’s a very happy tune!

I had a wonderful time away in the sun on a conservation holiday monitoring turtles no less…! When I got back to the UK to rather cooler weather I revisited this tune in order to make me smile a bit more…!

Parkwood - could you explain the percussion to me? I heard a drumset pattern in the background, like a hihat and a 2/4 bass drum. What was the asymetrical, melodic clicking rhythm? Some kind of electronic keyboard drum loop? In fact, was all the percussion electronic? Thx.
After all the discussions, I feel I have to apologize for asking, but …
Does anyone know where I can find sheet music for that?
It’s much easier for me to go back and forth between listening, picking up as much as possible by ear and correlating what I think I hear with what’s printed in the sheet music. It also helps me understand the ornamentation I hear.

The setting on the recording (great recording!) is a little jazzier. I like playing this after a Dmix tune like, for example, The Old Bush.
That last line, as usual for this kind of rhythm, can go

A lot of people get the key wrong. I’m not even sure it’s Ador myself, but i think it fits better than G or Dmix. The A part, by the way, has no F notes, so you can’t really tell if it’s Ador or A minor.

Surprisingly I don’t have a lot of free time…! (I’m a teacher). Just had some free time left before returning to school last week for the new term.
The bassy drum is a Renegade Rhythms bodhran with heavy compression. There is also a Ride cymbal bell note/triangle played on a MIDI soundset and a few shaker samples. There is also a Roland digital piano and my beloved Allodi accordion.
I’ve got a few more tunes up my sleeve.. the next will have an Overton low F for sure!
Eamonn’s is essentially Chicago Reel played with C#s instead of C naturals (and with a swung rhythm).

So Jerry, if you’re still listening, to get this version change the key signature from K:Ador to K:Amix. This will change the feel from “minor” to “major” (and will almost cry to have something in D major following it).
