I love the Duelling Chanters track on Chieftains Santiago, but unfortunately don’t know any Gaita players in Quebec.
Anyone know any tunes which can be played by Upipes and Scottish small pipes or Northumbrian pipes as a duet?
Devil in the Kitchen and um that tune… Dancing Feet? I’ve seen it a few times on different sites, Dancing Feet would kind of act as the “second” part where Devil in the Kitchen would be the main part.

Not many duets like that but Tin Whistles “Julia Delaney” remind me of that and, hey, both were created by and feature Paddy Moloney!
I’ve heard that Jarleth Henderson is recording and performing duets with a Scottish piper. Maybe someone alse knows more about this?
If that comes to fruition you should have lots of material.

There are gaita players (or at least gaita owners) in Ontario - too far away?
I recently bought Kathryn Tickell’s CD “Debateable Lands” and she has a lovely track on there with Uilleann and Northumbrian pipes (her own composition, but not blazing fast, so learnable).

Fred Morrison, quite possibly the most talented piper alive, plays both Scottish and Irish pipes. His last CD “Up South” (available from www.musicscotland.com) didn’t actually feature any duets, but he did play “Lochaber Dance:” (a very old Scottish slip jig) first on UPs and then on Border pipes, highlighting the considerable differences in ornamentation between the two instruments. It’s a fairly straightforward tune to play on Scottish pipes, but not the easiest thing to knock out on UPs.
Wasn’t there a photo on the North Hero Pipers’ Gathering page of a Border piper, an uilleann piper and a Northumbrian piper playing together (through the wonders of modern amplification)?
