Dubliners Track

I have a cd called, The Dubliners Irelands Prodigal Sons. Track 16 is called the Prodigal Son. Two questions: Can anybody tell me what kind of tune this is? Can anybody tell me where to find some dots for this tune?

Ron

The tune was written by John Sheahan, fiddle player with the Dubs.
It is a kind of Baroque pastiche which he plays as an air, then a hornpipe and finally a reel. Clever lad.

Can’t help with the dots but it is very easy to learn by ear…well it is on fiddle

Thanks Dubhlinn. I do real well playing along with the first part by ear. When he steps it up in Tempo I lose it. Then when he slows down I can pick it up again. I guess I will have to slow it down. I love this tune and enjoy playing along with the fiddle.

If the link works, it’s here :

A nice piece of music. I seem to remember that Mary Custy recorded a version, with Sharon Shannon.

Thanks Kenny. I slowed it down today in Windows Media Player and played along for a while. This version on the session seems a little different.

its a really good tune indeed, and i know the version of the session ,sometimes bit difficult ,but i play more autodidactic so for me its no problem.
I love to play this tune with a fiddler along ,its a good duo instrumental (and the dubliners playde the tune in this way too ,john on the fiddle and cirian on tin whistle)
