Drum assembly challenge

golly, I thought this thread was going to ask how to change a drum brake assembly.

I think you need to get out of the shop for a while…

You forgot “short”… short, fat hobbits… I mean squirrels…

Derek Smalls: We’re very lucky in the band in that we have two visionaries, David and Nigel, they’re like poets, like Shelley and Byron. They’re two distinct types of visionaries, it’s like fire and ice, basically. I feel my role in the band is to be somewhere in the middle of that, kind of like lukewarm water.

That’s it! That’s why I’m like I am.

I grew up with a brother who is both a drummer and a fiddler.

My cousin, David, had a drum set in the upstairs of his house. Luckily, he was an only child and had the upstairs space all to himself. He was good, though, and the whole neighborhood knew it. He was on TV once, but that was so long ago that they still had test patterns on during part of the daily broadcast times. Probably not many people here can remember the test patterns. Or can you?

I remember them. barely.

I remember them. It seems like my dad would jump up and fool around with the TV when they came on. Were they something to adjust the contrast and fuzziness to or what? I found them very annoying.

Hey Em, did you remember to tighten the down rod pin that attaches to the bearing pivot? You better go do that.

Yep. And I eased the torque of the dual flanges, as well as stabilizing the pan fitters.

But seriously. Are you yanking my chain, or referring to the hi-hat rod thingy?

Fair Emm,
Please don’t take this as an affront to your intelligence but have you remembered the drumsticks?

It is not unheard of for people giving presents to forget an essential part of the kit. I have tuned up many guitars intended for Xmas pressies only to find no strap, capo, plectrum or fingerpicks and when asking about them got a blank look in return..“What’s a plectrum?”

A local Asian shopkeeper in these parts who opens on Xmas day told me that he does a great trade in batteries on Xmas morning

Slan,
D.

Thank you Dub. It would not be unlike me to commit such an omission. As it happens, the kid is already a drummer, and has sticks, but has had to limit at-home practice to the electronic pad. His drum teacher made the recommendation in the Fall that an actual set at home would be a big help with the 3D aspect of practice, which thus far he has only had access to at lessons.

But now I’m trying to think whether I’ve forgotten any essential accessories to any other Christmas presents…

Yanking.

But the hi hat mechanism can be a pain in the tookus.

You’re probably right, but I’ve been so caught up in a project I’ve been working on that myu mind is set in that gear (no pun intended).
My personal project this month has been doing pro-bono mechanical work for families who cannot afford to pay a mechanic to fix their car. I figure it’s the least I can do to celebrate the solstice and St. John’s day.

That’s an excellent and generous project! Kudos to you!
