Dropped-D vs. DADGAD

Are their any pros and cons to playing one tuning over the other? Do most players use one or the other simply out of personal preference?

Thanks…Nyyaaa

I went through the same dilemma about three months ago. After getting some good tips from some very knowledgeable folks on this board, I settled on DADGAD and have been playing it exclusively now after about 25 years in standard tuning. It was a surprisingly easy transition.

That’s not to say it’s preferable to Drop-D, it’s just what I settled on. I really like the voicings that DADGAD offer - very full, open sounds, but still very flexible. And for playing melody, my favorite IrTrad tunes lay really nicely.
