Drone reed query

Hello,

Sorry if this has been discussed before ..

The drone reeds in my new drones are what I would call the inverted variety. That is, the blade points toward the drones rather than toward the air source. Maybe that’s not unusual for some but I was wondering what people thought of this setup compared to what I consider a more conventional one. I like the tone but they seem a little more apt to waver in pitch with pressure changes. I was always able to tweek my old reeds fairly well but bridle, wax etc. don’t seem to be as predictable with these. Anyone have any insight?

Only that this method is discussed on Allan Moller’s reed-making video. He says you can do all the same treatments on them that you could with reeds using the “conventional” method like extra scraping, bridle adjustment, blob of wax, etc.

Ian Mackenzie told me he reeded a set of drones that way and they worked well.
