Downloadable sheet music for MEDITATION for 'Irish' flute?

Hello all …

I’ve found various outlets for downloadable sheet music for MEDITATION by Jules Massenet but despite the transposing functions provided I can’t get anything within the octaves obtainable on my Simple ‘Irish’ flute. The people at “Music Notes” are always very knowledgeable and helpful but the Irish flute stumps them. Any ideas for this and similar sheet music downloads in usable octaves?

Thank you in advance …

Works better transposed to G Major or A Major on a D flute, instead of the original D Major. Just fold the octaves as necessary. Here’s the first theme, to get you started:

To play along with a recording you could use, say, an A whistle (G Maj setting) or G whistle or flute (A Maj setting) to put you back in the original key of D.

Fantastic J! As ever.

I’ve downloaded your Gmaj and Amaj transpositions and have had a play through already. I’m delighted. (This is a fantastic piece of music). I shall now go back to Musicnotes.com and wrassle their transposing program to produce Gmaj or Amaj and print out the full score. Thanks for the tip.

I have a diagram I was given some time ago to make what looks like an old fashioned slide rule to transpose music. Now you’ve shown me I need Gmaj or Amaj for my keyless flute perhaps I can dig the drawing out and use it.

Being inumerate, I’ve had a block about learning music theory. I thought after teaching myself to read music that was enough. Now I see if I’m ever going to understand what you’ve done, and why, then I’ve got to learn #$@%!! theory I suppose …

You are a flute and whistling treasure to us all, J. Thanks very much.

Sure, Keith.

The other option I didn’t mention - if you can play up into the 3rd octave on your flute - is to just play the original basically as-is. You should be able to hit at least the d’. The very high notes up to high F# you could fold down an octave if that’s more comfortable. And the few phrases that drop below D you can fold up. That actually works pretty well, too.

The free GIF versions on this site look mostly good and accurate (if not fully marked). Take a look at the violin and/or flute GIFs:

Measures 2 and 10 you can play down an octave if you’re more comfortable with that.

it is somewhat painful for many
I don’t think that there has been an fatalities though

Version 3 above, especially with measures 2 and 10 played low, should keep the casualties to a minimum.

folding is an odd little subtopic

Especially for (a) poker. :poke:

MTGuru: I printed out your Octave-folded for D flute, original key, and its perfect, for me anyway. What music this is! Feels great - such inexplicable emotive power. Can’t thank you enough, J. I owe you.

Keith, keep in mind that the music theory guru spent years studying music theory at one of the best music schools in the country. He makes it sound all so easy.

Aha! Thanks for the head’s up, Doug.

Despite Denny’s assurance there’s been no recorded deaths from studying musical theory, I’m sure mine would be the first … How deep into this satanic subject one can go before it’s too late? Does knowing it improve anything, anyway? Is it safe? Are there ways round it?

So, where was our Blessed Guru-ness initiated into this dark arcaneness? Does he mind us knowing?

buy a picture of a piano keyboard…

count how many 1/2 steps below yer instrument the tune goes
find each note of the tune and count toward the right that many 1/2 steps/piano keys/whatever

decide there are too many black keys in the new tune
move an other 1/2 step to the right

repeat as necessary
