I’ve looked on the Dixon site and the whistle shop site, and found nothing.
I have a Dixon low D that I like, but sometimes with my hands the finger stretch is just a teeny tiny bit much, and I can’t do pipers grip because my fingers are too thin. They don’t completely cover the holes that way.
I emailed the whistle shop a day or two ago but figured I’d ask here too.

If you don’t mind me saying, you’ve aged quite a bit!! Right, about a Dixon Low E, I don’t think Tony makes an E, you could contact him and ask if he would/could make one. Failing that, what about a Low F, it would be quite a bit shorter than a Low D and it’s a popular key. If you’re really after an E, Alba do a non-tuneable at £65, no idea what that would be in $ and of course you’d have to add postage but I think that would be less than any other maker. Like I say, I’d give Tony a try first.

Susato makes a low E for $46 (about £28…), but I don’t want a Susato. I really like the way this Dixon blows so easily and is quiet and the tone, but I can’t play it as long as I want without my fingers feeling a little bit stretched. It’s such a minor amount of space I’m sure a Low E wouldn’t be a problem.
The whistle shop doesn’t even have Dixon low Fs listed.
Actually, I have a Dixon low Eb, E, and a wide bore F that Tony made, as well as a low C. I worked through Thom at the Whistle Shop, but also made some e-mails to Tony directly to ask about the keys I wanted. Tony’s a great guy to work with, as is Thom, and I should think they could accomodate you!

I just got an email back from the whistle shop saying that the medium bore low Fs are in stock, and they can order wide bore low Fs, Es, and Ebs. Depending on how a couple of things on ebay go I might get one of them…

I have a Dixon low ‘F’,and it’s really pleasant to play-the stretch is no problem whatsoever,and it takes very little air.
A great ‘bang for the buck’ whistle,which I’d recommend,unless it’s definately an ‘E’ whistle you require.
Actually, I like all of them really well! I tend to use my Dixons for accompianing vocalists, since their softer sound and easy 2nd octave make them work well for that task. I do much prefer the wide bore F over the medium bore - I’ve had both, but the wide bore has a better bottom end and was really what I wanted. As for choosing one, it really depends on what you’re playing, and your finger stretch. You might want to try the F, and work down from there…
