I’m guessing most people on this list play Irish music.
I play 18th century popular music which is similiar but different. I play Flute, whistle, fife and am playing the Chanter and hope to get a set of pipes someday. I would be interested in hearing from anyone that is playing the same. What instruments are you using at the events? I’ve been playing natural metal finish Clarkes. Sweetheart 1 key Flutes as well as a Baroque looking Whistle made by Fred Rose. I also have a one key Flute on order from Pat Olwell

Hi, Ben,
I’m a Civil War reenactor, 19th c instead of 18th c, but I play my unpainted Clarke at reenactments all the time. Since it is nicely and prominently embossed with “1847”, I like waving it around. 
I also sometimes take my keyless Irish flute, and of course my fifes.

These guys play colonial and irish stuff. I have their CD. If you can get past the hammered dulcimer its pretty good.
dlambert: Just curious…What have you got against the hammer dulcimer?

I play 18th century events sometimes, and l also think an unpainted Clark is the way to go. It doesn’t look look much different from one made by the local tinsmith – just a rolled piece of tin. I also bring my keyless Dixon flute. And yes, I cheat sometimes with my brass Burke. 
It just has more volume and for many tunes a far better tone, especially for playing outdoors. I’ve never been called on it. Since I’d rather play than polish, it usually has a nice patina and looks much older than it is.
