Does anybody here play whistle in Punk Rock or Rock bands?

Irish Punk and folk punk rock is on the rise. Does anybody else play that style?

I play in a band called ‘Morioni’. We’re just starting and hoping to give our first performences in 2008. We play folk rock / folk metal. The songs we play now are:
White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (where I play the bagpipes)

In Extremo - Spiellmannsfluch (I’m playing also bagpipe here, now on the GHB, but I’ve ordered a medieval bagpipe from Jens Güntzel and hope to have it in march)

Flogging Molly - Devil’s Dancefloor (With me on whistle of course)

We hope to develop ourselfes a bit towards music like Eluveitie and Ensiferum. One of our next songs will be Your Gaulish War from Eluveitie.

I’m all ready to play in a band. I’ve been into traditional music and punk rock and the combination thereof for years! I just happen to live in the wrong place to start a band or even find one to join.

Oh, where are the ITM police when you need them!!!

In Extremo makes perfect use of the bagpipe in metal !! \m/

have you heard of the band Turisas? they play folk metal too, great band and similar to ensiferum in some ways :smiling_imp:

There is a band based around some folks I work with, playing mainly classic rock and some old country songs.

I have been known to play with them, sometimes on flute, sometimes on whistle.

Because there are no written parts, it’s done good things for my ear as far as finding a key or a mode and coming up with a part that works with the song instead of distracting from it.

We haven’t had a chance to play in quite a while: I miss it.

i play the whistle and the italian bagpipes

Unfortunately I don’t play in any bands, but I do hear a lot of whistle in some of the groups I listen to. It’s part of what drove me to whistle in the first place  .

There are some great popular Irish Punk rock bands ive seen over the years: Dropkick Murphy, Flogging Molly, The Tossers, and we have a local band called The Skels that are amazing…

I’m recording with a “pirate band” playing Mando, Whistle, and Harmonica called The Brine and Bastards

I wish I could see the Skels… But I have seen DKM and the Tossers, and Flatfoot 56, they are real good too. Right now I am working up to being able to play the whistle in a band, and I play guitar and am trying to learn pipes. I’ve got a brother learning the mandolin, one learning the drums, a friend who plays guitar, mandolin, and GHB so I should have a folk punk band eventually.

no kidding the skels are awesome!!!

i’m boody’s brother and we are planing to have a pouges-ish band in the next couple years. i’ll play the concertina or drums. I don’t know much about music really so its challenging to mash it all together but i’m learning. me and my bro have a punk band so I know that side of it but mixing in folk and still preserving a circle-pittable song is a challenge, especially with no one to show me how to do it. I would love to hear from someone with experiance in the field.

i’ve got a friend that plays the mando thats put together some songs with just himself singing and playing the mando. but the recording is so bad i fear its not fit for public consumption.

heres a cool folk (though not irish)/punk band : http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=8377874

8solo5’s band is sweet, check it.

do the brine and bastards have a myspace or something? it sounds promising.

to anyone who is an itm policeman, i say punk is music of the people just like folk is. they are part of the same genre in my mind.

An Dochas plays whistles, and they are definitely an Irish rock band! They have a My Space page: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=26306469 Kind of loud for my taste, but we plan to see them at First Night, especially since they will be alternating with the Celtic Nots.

ther is no whistle mando, banjo, or harmonica on these tracks yet, its just roughs. I haven’t laid anything down yet

No, but I would really like to…

For Irish punk with good whistling on every cut, these guys are the best I’ve ever heard, and I love Irish punk:

I just pretty much started playing the whistle, and I did it because my husband’s band needed a whistle player. We play a few originals, some traditionals in a punk style, and mainly covers of Flogging, Dropkicks, Tossers, Pogues, etc. I’m loving it! On that subject, does anyone know where I might find tabs for those bands? Or be willing to share theirs? I’m learning by ear, but it would be a lot faster if I wasn’t!

not whistle but bagpipe with a dffrent style . one of the guys in the band used to metal detect with the club i am in
