Dixon with Brass Slide

Received this today (along with a nice Session Tune Set Book from Steve at Shanna Quay))- a lovely whistle. The usual black plastic, but with real brass ferrules. This is just some quick feedback, that some have asked for (Avanutria?). The bell note on mine is in tune with the slide out about 1/4". I gave it the full “difficult” and high end note tune test - Danny Boy, Si Beg Si Mor, The Rolling Wave, and Calliope House - and it passed in fine fashion. Especially for a plastic whistle, has nice full round tone and easy to play and switch octaves. I think it’s pretty well in tune. The tuning slide is marvelous - telesoping brass into brass and perfect fit and movement (moves easily, yet remains firmly in place). Comes in a cloth case. I’ve already tagged it as a favorite and one suitable for travel. Let me know what you guys think if and when you get yours. Regards, Philo

Mine shipped today, I ought to have some feedback/pics/sound files by the end of the weekend.

Is it in tune with itself? There was some discussion](http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?topic=3409&forum=1&16%22%3Ediscussion) earlier with regards to tuning in the second octave.

I may not be the one to answer this sufficiently for you as I don’t generally play with others. By ear it sounds fine to me up and down the scale in both octaves. When I saw your e-mail, I then tested all notes in both octaves with my qwiktune chromatic tuner - all seem ok. I think I have a pretty good instinct and have played for quite some time on a number of whistles. My timing and rhythm is good and I feel that I can give an experienced well-founded recommendation with respect to craftsmanship/materials, responsiveness, tonal quality or timbre, air requirements, ease of transition, and certainly a very basic ear for the scale. Beyond that though, there are many on this Board who are better suited to opine with any depth regarding music theory, intonation, etc. (I realize that’s not very helpful if none of them yet have the whistle you’re asking about). Oh heck, I think it’s just fine and passed the all-important test - wife and daughter said it sounds “nice.”

That’s good enough for me. Thanks
