Dixon Low D

There have been a couple of threads inquiring into which Low D whistle may be most appropriate for a beginner.
I just received my Dixon Low D from the Whistle Shop (and I am definitely a beginner…). I had made the mistake of skipping the Soprano altogether and buying a Chieftain Low G as my first whistle. Since then, I did get a couple of Soprano Ds because the Chieftain was just too hard to play with no prior experience.
Well, imagine my surprise when I tried the Dixon (expecting it to be harder than the Chieftain… after all, it is a Low D!) and found it to be actually easier to play than the Chieftain Low G… The spacing of the holes is a little wider, but somehow they are easier to seal to produce an adequate note. So much so that I have noticed you must be careful to avoid flipping octaves.
So, I would definitely concur with those who have said that the Dixon is to be recommended as a first Low D.
