Hi,
Just finished making a thinned head for my Dixon flute. It has a brass tuning slide to match the rings. Still have to make the cap.
I used Terry Mcgee’s Mach lll design, with a Eccentric Bore Head.
I copied the Dixon embouchure, no sense changing something that is perfect already! ![]()
The flute feels a lot more balanced, and with the thinned head, it is a little more comfortable to play. The tone is the same with bothe heads.
not bad for a days work…
Jon
here is a link for a photo of the head joint.
Cheers!

Cheers,
Loren

I am currently working on a Pratten in Holly, and a head joint form my old english flute in Boxwood. Next will be a blackwood R&R…
Very cool Jon. I have a rosewood Dixon if you ever want to try doing a head with slide for it just let me know ![]()
