Dixon high C-natural fingering?

When playing Trim the Velvet yesterday I discovered that on my Dixon one-piece high D whistle, neither of the fingerings I use for high C-natural on flute or whistle will work. (Usually

o x o | x x x

works, if it doesn’t

o x o | o o o will.)

I haven’t been able to come up with a fingering yet that doesn’t shriek. Anybody know one?

Thanks!

Hi James,

Using your first fingering for high Cnat. I have found that it sometimes helps to articulate the note rather than just blowing it. I give a short burst of air while pronouncing a T sound. This is what I think people call tonguing a note although I never touch my tongue to the mouthpiece. The short burst of air might help sound the note without shrieking. I haven’t found any better fingering than the one you have already shown, but maybe a Dixon owner might know of one for that particular whistle. Hope this helps.

Best wishes, Tom

Hi,

I just have a Dixon Bflat whistle, but the following fingering seems to work ok for a high Cnat fingering.

xoo xxo

Its the best I’ve found so far anyway. Hope it works alright with a D whistle
